"L'Invention de la voix": an animated short film by Gianluigi Toccafondo

Italian director Gianluigi Toccafondo is one of the new residents of this beginning of the year for the first part of his residency at Ciclic Animation. He begins the production of his short film L' Invention de la voix until April 8th.

Gianluigi Toccafondo was born in San Marino (Italy) in 1965. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Urbino. In his work, he moves painting through a technique that dedicated him in the 1990s as one of the leading directors of animation cinema: he uses pre-existing images (magazine photos, film photograms) that it deforms with the photocopy then reworks with acrylic, pencil or any other medium, and then refill them one by one.

Director of short films presented at international festivals, Gianluigi Toccafondo was also assistant director on Matteo Garrone’s Gomorra in 2008, and directed the 2010 credits of Ridley Scott’s film Robin Hood.

L' Invention de la voix tells, through three generations of mermaids, the appearance on Earth of an enchanting voice that terrorizes all other creatures. The beasts, ferocious and envious, not supporting greatness and beauty, cannot understand it, even if they are irresistibly attracted to it.

This film, produced by Miyu Productions received production support. The director, Gianluigi Toccafondo, will be in residence from January 17th 2022 to April 8th 2022.
